Job Purpose

The Workshop Supervisor is accountable for managing the workshop facility in compliance with GMR 2.1 legal requirements. This position plays a critical role in leading and coordinating all workshop operations, ensuring optimal resource allocation, maintaining safety and quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. The Supervisor will supervise and mentor workshop teams, promote technical excellence, and support the development of execution capabilities to meet operational and project goals.

Qualifications/Experience:

Qualifications:

  • Artisan qualification (Red Seal – Trade Tested).

  • Must be legally competent and eligible to be appointed as a GMR 2.1 Level A under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Driver’s License and own transport.

  • Proficiency in Office Management Software and Microsoft Office Suite.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of practical experience in a workshop, maintenance, or technical operations environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.

  • Proven ability to manage workshop teams, allocate tasks, and oversee day-to-day operations with a focus on safety, efficiency, and quality.

  • In-depth knowledge of responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, with a demonstrated commitment to workplace safety standards and compliance.

  • Extensive experience in coordinating routine maintenance activities, diagnosing faults, and ensuring timely execution of both preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.

  • Skilled in supervising external contractors and service providers, ensuring adherence to quality standards, regulatory compliance, and budget controls.

  • Competence in managing workshop tools and equipment, including tracking availability, scheduling calibrations, verifying usage, and ensuring operator competency.

  • Experienced in supporting material planning, inventory management, and procurement functions to maintain seamless workshop operations.

  • Strong involvement in project support, contributing technical input and coordinating workshop resources to meet project timelines and deliverables.

  • Proven leadership in mentoring technical staff, fostering a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Ensure full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including acting as the legally appointed GMR 2.1 person responsible under the OHS Act.

  • Supervise and coordinate day-to-day workshop maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment and facilities.

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance tasks in coordination with internal teams and external service providers.

  • Monitor and assess the performance of service providers, ensuring maintenance activities meet safety, quality, and operational standards.

  • Ensure availability, calibration, and effective use of workshop tools, and verify operator competence for safe and compliant operation.

  • Enforce adherence to applicable standards and legislation across all workshop tools, equipment, and activities.

  • Manage material planning, procurement, and inventory control processes to support ongoing maintenance and timely project execution.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to support workshop-related project activities, including providing technical input and resource coordination.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop workshop staff, cultivating a high-performance team culture centered on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
