Job Purpose

The Quality Control Inspector: EC&I is responsible for the organization, implementation, and scheduling of quality checks on equipment, evaluates and verifies the work performed against the work plan, specifications and standards, records/reports findings and concerns, and specifies corrective actions.  This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all instrumentation and control systems are installed, tested and functioning according to quality standards, project specifications and safety regulations. 

Qualifications/Experience:

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Artisan qualification (Read Seal – Instrumentation Mechanician or Electrician) or

  • S4 Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent Diploma in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6) or

  • Advanced Diploma in Instrument/Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 7) (Beneficial)

  • Driver’s License and own transport.

  • Proficiency in Office Management Software and Microsoft Office Suite.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of QA/QC experience in the petrochemical and power generation construction

  • Experience with inspection, testing, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems.

  • Hands-on experience in electrical and instrumentation quality control within the petrochemical or oil and gas industry is crucial.

  • Good communication and documentation skills to report findings and coordinate with other departments

  • Knowledge of applicable health, safety and environmental codes, standards, and legislation

  • Ability to read and interpret Instrumentation and Electrical engineering drawings and schematics. 

  • Experience in substation equipment testing and commissioning will be advantageous.

  • Understanding Instrumentation and Electrical construction requirements.

  • Ability to develop and manage non-conformance, defects, and including root cause analysis.

  • Understanding of ISO 9001, familiar with SANS/IEC Codes and Eskom standards. 

Requirements

  • Responsible for the general day-to-day support and onsite inspections of Instrumentation and Electrical engineering of the relevant Project.

  • Ensuring technical compliance with Instrumentation & Electrical engineering and Site documents.

  • Electrical site interface with the Client and End-Client.

  • Site Instrumentation and Electrical inputs and quality inspections.

  • Ensures a safe working environment, compliance with safety standards, and adheres to regulatory compliance.

  • Review the contractor’s quality documents as per approved Quality Management requirements.

  • Read and evaluate IFC drawings during construction and installation.

  • Ensures the construction work is performed per Quality procedures and the terms and conditions of the contract. Support and facilitate the project closeout phase to ensure a smooth handover to the End-User. Generate the punch list for defects noticed during Instrumentation and Electrical Inspections.

  • Detect possible Instrumentation and Electrical quality problems before or during the work and assist in problem-solving by coordinating with the quality manager.

  • Review and reconcile Construction Method Statements, Quality Control Plans, Check Sheets and Site records to ensure design standards are being met.

  • Raise Technical Queries to the Engineering team for any ambiguity on design, unspecified materials, the discrepancy in the drawings.

  • Monitoring of all site construction, quality checks during construction, and performing inspection of the materials / components and checking / inspection of all completed construction.

  • Checking that the construction and assembly work is properly carried out, ensuring that the applicable standards and procedures are complied with.

  • Review the contractor’s documenting design changes emerging on site and reporting them to the Quality Manager for the preparation of the as-built drawings and quality Dossier.

  • Identify and supervise non-conformities and corrective actions.

  • Report any non-conformances to the construction manager and quality manager.

  • Electrical Non-conformance and change request reviews.
